OT: Disney buys Lucasfilm!

OMG! This has to be fake. The font size is so much huger than my regular Yahoo news page. But maybe we'd get our theme park finally!

How unprofessional. I didn't even get a message that Lucasfilm rejected my offer.

I'm just excited to hear that someone other than George Lucas will be directing a Star Wars film...Maybe we will get another Empire Strikes Back finally.

And Disney makes me think they can get it right.....hopefully....

Hopefully George takes the Cursed earth long walk into the wilderness and is COMPLETELY removed from any interfering or scripting or directing.....

This is so exciting if true!!

"In 2015, we’re planning to release Star Wars Episode 7 – the first feature film under the “Disney-Lucasfilm” brand. That will be followed by Episodes 8 and 9 – and our long term plan is to release a new Star Wars feature film every two to three years. We’re very happy that George Lucas will be creative consultant on our new Star Wars films and that Kathleen Kennedy, the current Co-Chair of Lucasfilm, will executive produce. George handpicked Kathy earlier this year to lead Lucasfilm into the future. She’ll join Disney as President of Lucasfilm, reporting into Walt Disney Studios Chairman Alan Horn and integrating and building the Star Wars franchise across our company."

HOLY MOTHER OF GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GAME ON BOYS!!!!!!!!

Well, technically George had already stepped down from Lucas Films. Kathleen Kennedy is the president. George said he was going to stick to low budget indy (I mean) Indie films

(oops too late you guys beat me)

HOLY JUNK! I don't know to be excited or terrified.

You modern figure collectors better get your wallets and make some space - there's gonna be a truckload of new beauties for you boys to collect!!!

Great. Now maybe Disney will give the fans what they want, including a proper Bluray DVD release of the classic trilogy before George butchered it.

Seconded, that's really all I want: proper, unmodified Blu-Ray versions of the Original Trilogy.

As for the possibilities of Episodes 7-9, as long as Lucas stays as hands off as he's been with the Clone Wars, then there is a chance that they could turn out pretty good. It's hard to imagine that they could somehow be worse than the prequels, unless they hire Michael Bay to direct them.

This is actually superb news for us guys. The thought of no more Star Wars movies and interest levels dwindling away is never good from a collector pov.

However the idea that Star Wars will keep going and enthusing more and future generations, like the James Bond franchise has since the sixties is fantastic news for us collectors - and will only be positive for the $ values of vintage collections and for bringing new people into the hobby.

This is REALLY good news from a long-term investment pov.

Amazing news!! Just about fell out of my chair when I heard the news of the purchase, but that they're actually making more movies?? Incredible!

So now Leia will be a Disney princess?

I'm not sure what to think about this. I've thought for a long time that when George was gone and other filmmakers were allowed to play in his universe, we could see an amazing revival of the Star Wars. But this sounds really aggressive. Can they really deliver a quality film without even having a director? Haven't we had enough mediocre Star Wars? The Clone Wars started off pretty well, but it seems to have gotten repetitive and a bit tepid recently.

On the other hand, Disney has definitely proved its mettle with the Avengers and almost anything done by Pixar. They're not likely to waste this opportunity. Can you imagine a SW film directed by Brad Bird? Or JJ Abrams? Joss Whedon? Sam Raimi?

I still need time to think about this properly but my first instinct is that I don't like it. I think it's been on the cards for a while, but Disney's constant acquisition of boyhood dreams is alarming. I think they'll try to make good films, but they'll be stifled by the corporation. Disney has turned into the Citi of the entertainment world. Forget episode 7, TV's where it's at. Will the mooted live action Star Wars TV series get the nod? As for Lucas, this'll give him a lot of freedom to do great work for education and charity. Like I say, this is just a gut reaction and I need to sit on it for a while.

Great news! Can't wait for Episode 7-9 and a new Star Wars feature film every 2-3 years.... Wow. Happy Days!! :)

Does that mean I collect "Disney figures" now??? Wow....and I thought it couldnt get worse telling people what my hobby is....

I was genuinely a little jaded,collecting-wise,recently.....what a shot in the arm this is for the hobby......!!!

and the fact that it was not leaked,or even hinted at in the era of 24 hour news and social networking is even more staggering.....

Just when you thought it was safe to sell your 12-backs.....lol
they reel you back in....

If Lucas can't monkey with the originals any longer, than will we ever truly get to see his "original vision" ;)?

this is going to be good and bad. Good for people that like to see Star Wars run into the ground more than it already has been . Bad for prop makers and other custom sellers for all the C & D letters that will be going out. I think the new movies will be good if they get good writers and totally forget the last three movies. ..

good because my son will be 7 by then and I will be able to take him to the theater and watch a real STAR WARS movie with him (snif)
